Pet accidents are not an ordinary stain. Urine soaks through the carpet into the underlay, and as it dries it crystallises. Those crystals sit there reactivating every time the air gets humid, which is why a patch that seemed fine in winter smells again in summer.
It is also why cleaning the surface alone rarely works. The mark comes out, the smell comes back, and the dog returns to the same spot because it can still smell what you cannot. Dealing with it properly means treating the source.

- Inspection to find all affected areas, including ones you may not know about
- Assessment of how far the urine has travelled into the carpet and underlay
- Enzyme treatment that breaks down urine salts rather than masking them
- Deep extraction of the affected area
- Treatment of surrounding carpet where the urine has spread outwards
- A straight answer on whether the underlay needs replacing
How We Do It
Locate everything
Affected areas are often larger than the visible mark, and there are usually more of them than the owner expects. We check the whole room rather than the one spot you point at.
Assess the depth
Surface contamination is very different from urine that has reached the underlay and floorboards. This decides what can realistically be achieved.
Flush
The area is flushed and extracted to remove as much contamination as possible before any treatment goes on.
Enzyme treatment
An enzyme solution is applied and left to work. Enzymes break down the urine salts that produce the smell, which is what a general cleaner cannot do.
Final clean
The area is cleaned and blended into the surrounding carpet, then dried.
Worth Knowing Before You Book
- Urine can bleach carpet dye permanently. Where it has, the colour will not come back even once the odour and contamination are gone. We will point this out before starting so you are not surprised.
- Heavy or repeated soiling in one spot often means the underlay is saturated. No amount of surface cleaning fixes that, and replacing a small section of underlay is the real answer.
- Cat urine is more concentrated than dog urine and harder to resolve.
- Some cases need a second treatment. We would rather say that upfront than promise a single visit will do it.
Pet Stain Removal — Common Questions
Removing the scent marker properly usually helps a great deal, because the dog is returning to a smell it can still detect. It is not a training fix, but it removes the trigger.
In most cases the carpet can be saved. It is usually the underlay beneath that is the problem, and that can be replaced in sections far more cheaply than a whole carpet.
By inspecting the carpet and checking the areas pets typically use, such as along skirting, behind doors and in corners. Affected areas usually feel and look different once you know what to look for.
Yes. The enzyme treatments we use are safe around animals once dry. We ask that pets stay off the area until then.
